Key takeaways
  • focus on the things you enjoy, when the goings get tough (and it will) human nature is to put in that extra effort where you feel comfortable
  • nobody is responsible for your career development except yourself, expect nothing from anyone and become the person people rely upon to get things actioned.
trust your gut, with time. If part of your career path or role doesn't feel right after 6-12 months think about where you DO want to be
Chris ArnottHost: Chris is the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Country Manager for the world's leading geo-data specialist and ground risk management company, Fugro. His choice in degree was due to his love of the outdoors and wanting to avoid being locked in a lecture theatre. Now, he manages a £24 million a year business and leads over 300 staff members. His biggest challenge in life is balancing his passion for developing his staff and business and his love for spending quality time with his lovely family.

In this class, Chris Arnott will discuss what its like to manage a business of more than 300 people, all of who are ex-patriates, working away from their home countries. Chris will outline how he inadvertently played to his strengths in making career choices based on job satisfaction opportunities and gut feelings resulting in a leadership position that he really enjoys at a relatively young age. Not something he ever dreamt possible when his particularly poor A Level results came through.
