An understanding of bookbinding as a profession
An example of how different jobs along your career can all contribute to an end goal
Gillian StewartHost: Gillian Stewart is a prize-winning bookbinder and business owner working from her studio in Glasgow. She was always interested in making and telling stories, and first discovered bookbinding during her illustration degree at Glasgow School of Art. Finding it hard to find training or employment in the craft, she became a QEST Craft Scholar in 2018 and started her own business.

In this this, Gillian will talk about how all the seemingly unrelated experiences that have led her here help in running her business. Ie, bar tending, working on farms, hanging exhibitions, waitressing. Every bit of experience can help us in the future, so we shouldn't be disheartened if we're doing something we don't enjoy at the time!

She will also cover a little bit about how I set up my business too, to give first hand experience of what it's like to set up and run your own business.

This class is part of the Creative Craft Careers series with Heritage Crafts - a great series of classes for students who have an interest in crafts and want to explore more of the many career opportunities available.
