Host: Julian is a luthier, a stringed instrument maker and repairer of the Violin Family. He has played the violin since he was 6 and his violin teacher's husband introduced him to the world of violin making. Julian trained at Merton College near London and loves the variety that comes with this job. 'It's a cross between woodwork, fine art, the antiques trade and in some cases Silversmithing if you learn to make bows. Playing the violin isn't necessary but it is enjoyable.'A luthier is someone who makes or repairs stringed instruments! In this class, students will hear an introduction to
the world of luthery. Julian will provide a brief description of his journey, some of the
work he does and the various jobs within industry.
