Host: Dominic is a teacher and English Literature graduate, Adobe Education Evangelist, and recent winner of the Institute Of Education’s EDUCATE award.Given that this task represents 25% of the final mark in the English Language GCSE, this is without doubt the easiest way to improve your result! All GCSE Language boards require students to complete a piece of non-fiction on a given topic in one of the papers.
These classes centre around short 2 minute videos designed to stimulate writing on a particular global issue. With the video, students are given the necessary background and context of an issue in order to answer four short questions as part of a 200 word challenge.
Students often struggle to engage with the tasks because of a lack of knowledge or awareness of the topics. For example, AQA stated in their examiner’s report this last year that 'what characterised the best of these responses was the ability to engage with the ‘big ideas’: politics, economics, gender, aesthetics, class, morality, psychology, even philosophy. Students who were confident and familiar with these ideas were able to frame their own perspectives in this larger context and thereby enhance the quality of their argument.’

This class is suitable for all English students in Years 9 or S3 who want to excel in their English Language writing.
Class requirements:
Students will require a laptop with internet connection to view the class. A pen and notepad will also be required during the lesson.
